Setup
Gather a group of players (ideally 4 to 10 players for a good balance of interaction and difficulty). Press the 'Start Game' button at the top of this page. This will assign all players with their secret words.
How to Play
After everyone has been given their secret word, going clockwise, players take turns describing their word with a one or two-word clue. For example, if it was Apple, then the clue could be “Crunchy”. After each player has given their clue, there's a brief discussion period where players can exchange suspicions and opinions about who they think is Mr. White. Each player then casts a vote on who they believe is Mr. White by pointing at that person. The player with the most votes (people pointing at them) is accused of being Mr. White and must have the host look at their word. The host must only say if they are Mr. White or not. If the majority vote was correct and the accused player is indeed Mr. White, then Mr. White has one chance to guess what the word everybody else has is. If they guess it correctly, then they win! However, if they guess wrong, the group wins. However, if the majority is incorrect, Mr. White wins the round and the player that was incorrectly voted on is eliminated from the game while the others continue playing more rounds by each saying a new description for the same word and voting again. The game continues like this until Mr. White is caught.
Frequently asked questions
How many people do you need to play Mr White?
Mr White works best with 4-10 players. Smaller groups make the odd player easier to spot, while bigger groups create more room for bluffing.
Is Mr White like Undercover?
Yes. Mr White is an Undercover-style word deduction game where most players share one word, one player has a similar word, and Mr White has to bluff without seeing either word.
Can you play Mr White without cards?
Yes. Pocket Party handles the words and secret roles digitally, so you can play without printed cards, pens, or a moderator.
What is the best strategy in Mr White?
Give clues that are specific enough to prove you know your word, but not so specific that Mr White can copy you or guess the secret.
Is Mr White good for online parties?
Yes. Mr White works well on video calls because each player can get a private role on their own device and discuss clues out loud.
